Axalta Coating Systems is seeking a Coatings Scientist to join our staff in our Mount Clemens, Michigan facility. The candidate will join the Technology Organization at the North American Technology Center supporting our liquid coatings businesses. Under the guidance of a senior professional, the successful candidate will plan, execute and interpret results from experiments in product development and technical service programs in the area of electrocoat.

Axalta Coating Systems is seeking a Coatings Scientist to join our staff in our Mount Clemens, Michigan facility. The candidate will join the Technology Organization at the North American Technology Center supporting our liquid coatings businesses. Under the guidance of a senior professional, the successful candidate will plan, execute and interpret results from experiments in product development and technical service programs in the area of electrocoat.

Key Responsibilities:

• Development and optimization of electrocoat formulas using appropriate design of experiments and statistical tools to meet film properties and application and corrosion specifications as provided by the customer.
• Testing and overall management of technical program leading to electrocoat product approvals with OEM Automotive and other Transportation customers.
• Provide technical field support for the products in our customers’ facilities. Specific areas include: participation in trials and extended launch programs to assure optimal performance of the products, problem solving as appropriate, and preparation of reports to assist in problem solving and communication throughout the customer organization.
• Ability to lead and / or be a significant contributor in cross-functional teams to support product development, scale-up, and manufacturing and customer technical service.

Specific Technical knowledge:

Chemistry, organic chemistry, electrochemistry

Product optimization by statistically designed experiments.

Basic Qualifications:

• B.S/M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or closely related discipline is required.
• The ideal candidate will have five (5) to fifteen (15) years of experience in the chemical industry. Experience in product optimization in the coatings industry is highly preferred.
• Candidate must have outstanding written and oral communication skills.
• Candidate must me proficient in with MS Office.
