    Position  Overview 


    This position will report to the General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer, Americas, Andy Macan, and be a leader on the Axalta Americas Legal Team.  This is a highly visible role within the Axalta Americas region and the global Axalta Legal Department, with significant succession potential.  The Associate General Counsel will have front line responsibility for working with Axalta’s business units, procurement and sourcing teams, operations, HR and other functions.  This individual must be an excellent business advisor and counselor who is hard-charging (yet tactful), high-energy, dynamic, a problem-solver and a self-starter who will communicate clearly, be responsive, engaged in the business, and proactive.  He/she must have the ability to quickly learn new areas of the law and the confidence to counsel colleagues on novel legal questions.


    Axalta’s Group General Counsel, Michael Finn, received the 2018 GC Impact Award from The Legal Intelligencer and the Axalta Legal Department has been recognized by the Financial Times as one of the most innovative departments in the USA, won the ACC Value Challenge with Hunton & Williams for their work together on restructuring Axalta’s procurement processes, been named the Winner for Best Law Department – Outside Counsel Management by Philadelphia’s Legal Intelligencer and was a Corporate Counsel finalist for Legal Department of the Year.


    Axalta Americas’ attorneys are located in Glen Mills, PA, Mexico City, Mexico and Guarulhos, Brazil.  Axalta also has lawyers in Philadelphia, PA, China, Switzerland and Germany.  The Associate General Counsel will sit in Axalta Americas’ regional headquarters.  The regional headquarters attire is business casual Monday - Thursday, jean-Fridays and is piloting a flexible summer hours schedule.


    Role is located in our Americas Office in Glen Mills, PA.  Travel for this role is approximately 10%.



    Qualifications & Skills


    • Education:
      • Strong academic credentials, including a J.D. or equivalent degree from a well-respected U.S. law school.
      • Licensed to practice in at least one state and eligible for a limited PA in-house corporate counsel license.
    • Required Experience:
      • Minimum 10+ years of legal experience (preference for training from a top law firm)
      • Generalist with a broad exposure to multiple legal matter-types, such as commercial contracts, litigation, employment, real estate, environmental, and international.
    • Required Skills:
      • Results Oriented - action-oriented problem solver; commercially savvy and committed to getting into the details of a matter and personally handling it through to conclusion;
      • Team Player - ability to work well and build relationships across all levels of the organization, and be highly effective and able to maximize the efficiency of the legal department and the desire to work on numerous matters arising in an in-house legal department;
      • Intellectually Curious – Quick learner driven to expand skill set, with a “can do” attitude and a strong desire to grow and develop as an attorney;
      • Business Focus - business-orientation with the ability to drive innovative solutions and strategies, and to appropriately balance risk with the need for the business to take action;
      • Communicator - excellent communication and presentation skills, capability to scale support across a large organization and multiple jurisdictions;
      • Continuous Improvement Mentality - focused on improving the Company’s service, products and processes, with ability to drive continuous improvement;
      • Leadership – ability to lead and influence highly-talented teams of cross-functional experts;
      • Personal Attributes - high energy with the highest levels of personal and professional integrity.
      • Outstanding judgment, legal reasoning, and strategic thinking ability.

    • Desired Experience/Abilities:
      • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
      • Prior in-house experience a plus.
      • Combination of experience with contracts, litigation, international and regulatory matters would be ideal.
