    With minimal guidance from supervision and within established procedures, the individual will conduct routine as well as complex research laboratory activities in support of Americas Technology Center. The incumbent will provide support to the Chemists / Engineers in the research and development process. Research may include assistance with information/data management activities and analysis of results.

    Responsibilities also include:


    Assist in the design of experiments, conduct those experiments independently and collect, summarize and present the resulting data.

    Troubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory, collaborate with research investigators when erroneous or unexpected results occur.

    Identify and suggest improvements in methods.

    Producing research experimental results, or information/data management results, or assembling and configuring of analytical instrumentation that utilize a variety of techniques.

    Documenting findings and communicating results.

    Makes suggestions on path forward and contributes to formulating work plans and managing daily workflow.

    Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct experiments at the designated work location.

    Maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work location.

    Maintain a safe working environment.

    Preparation and evaluation of coating formulations including electro-coat, primer, topcoat and clear coat using mixing equipment and various spray equipment.

    Accurately running and recording test results for all coatings formulations.

    Interpretation and communication of test results using computer based systems.

    Documentation of experimental test results using computer programs such as Word, Excel.

    Safely handle, categorize and dispose of chemicals on a routine basis.

    Handling multiple tasks under strict time constraints.






    2 year degree from college or technical school; or equivalent experience in an industrial laboratory environment, 4 year degree preferred.

    At least 2 years hands-on experience with instrumentation used in materials characterization.

    Good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to work well in both self-managed and team environment.

    Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting established deadlines

    Comfortable working with hazardous materials.

    Strong interest in hands-on work to ensure a good understanding of the products

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

    Effective problem solver.

    Possess strong computer and analytical skills.

    Strong problem solving and decision making skills.

    Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software packages.

    Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 




    Additional consideration will be given to applicants with experience in at least one of the following areas:


    Analytical Support, especially in the area of microscopy and chromatography
