    Role Summary:

    Axalta is seeking a Coatings Application Resource for the Global Innovation Center (GIC) located in Philadelphia, PA.   This role is responsible for driving projects on paint application and application equipment together with the Application Subject Matter Expert (SME).  The person in this role will take the lead on design, installation, start-up, troubleshooting and debug of automated paint application equipment and will be responsible for designing and executing experiments related to paint atomization and deposition.  The coatings application engineer will work with new product development teams to provide application expertise in evaluating new product prototypes and will interface/support business application groups, as needed.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

     

    • Manage application-related R&D projects for the SME in the GIC coating application laboratory.
    • Interface with and support the application needs of the product development teams and business application groups.
    • Responsible for application equipment upgrades, including the installation of new atomizers, spray machines, and needed machine upgrades.
    • Assist maintenance personnel in troubleshooting of paint application equipment including but not limited to the automated spray machines and related paint application devices.
    • Assist Application group by developing standard practices that ensure the safe and reliable operation of paint application equipment.
    • Maintain inventory of application equipment, software, and spare parts for the technical organization needs.
    • Work with site maintenance to coordinate equipment protection during building shut-down and start-up periods.
    • Stay abreast of application technology related to coatings industry.
    • Position will occasionally require support on 2nd shift as needed.
    • Optimize booth scheduling process by measuring and analyzing booth and/or equipment utilization.
    • Ensure Application area safety and housekeeping standards are maintained.

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

     

    • Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical engineering, however, multiple years of experience building or troubleshooting automated equipment will considered in lieu of degree.
    • Experience in reading electronic prints and troubleshooting pneumatic, electrical and mechanical equipment. 
    • Strong problem solving and communication skills. 
    • Working proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel required.
    • Familiarity with LabView Instrumentation programming language and hardware desired
    • Familiarity with Visual Studios programming suite: C+, C++, Visual Basic desired
    • Familiarly with the automotive paint application process is a plus.
