    Job Description:

    Axalta Coating Systems is seeking a Technology Team Leader to join our staff in our Mount Clemens, Michigan facility. The candidate will join the Technology Organization at the North American Technology Center supporting the liquid industrial coatings businesses. Under the guidance of the Liquid Industrial Technology Manager, the successful candidate will lead a team of chemists based in Mt Clemens MI and Jacksonville, TX focused on enhancing Axalta’s Industrial Coating’s product portfolio.

    Responsibilities

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Align, drive, and motivate project teams to support existing product lines and processes, and in the development of new products; including Solvent & Waterborne DTM, primer, base/color coat, and clear coats; targeted to provide corrosion protection, durability, and aesthetics.
    • Ability to lead cross-functional teams supporting product development, scale-up, and customer technical service.
    • Support of formula transfer from development to process technology including support in the establishment of specifications and test methods, fine tuning of the formula to allow first time right quality and problem solving to the area when appropriate. Function as key contact on teams related to quality, management of change, or others

    ·            Develop and monitor professional development and performance plans to enable growth and retention of technical bench. Responsible for work group safety performance.

    ·            Ensure team operates with customer focus through participation in trials and launch programs that ensure performance to targets and build the case for strong product value propositions.

    ·            Develops project and experimental plans that lead to a deeper understanding of structure – property relationships. Set challenging but achievable milestones   Provides reports of project progress and key learnings to higher levels of management.  Development of coatings formulas using appropriate design of experiments and statistical tools to meet wet paint, film properties and application / appearance specifications as provided by the customer. 

    ·            Implements lean /continuous improvement workflows to meet deadlines and adhere to core operating principles, including safe work practices in compliance with ISO certified Quality Management systems.

    Qualifications

      • B.S/M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or closely related discipline is required.
      • The ideal candidate will have at least three (5) to fifteen (15) years of experience in the chemical industry, with at least 5 years of industrial coating experience in epoxy and urethane chemistry.
    • Demonstrated team leadership, initiative, and creative problem-solving skills
    • Must be able to manage multiple complex projects, simultaneously.      

     

    • Knowledge of designed experimentation and statistical data analysis. Must be able to apply data analysis tools to system development and problem solving.
    • Proven track record of positive customer interactions, providing rapid feedback in time-critical situations.
    • Must have experience with data analysis in Excel, Minitab, or similar.
