    Axalta is looking to add another Technical Service Specialist to work at one of our major customers manufacturing operations in Dublin, VA.  The Technical Service Specialist will provide in-depth technical direction and assistance to customer(s) regarding the use of Axalta coating products in the heavy duty truck industry.  This will be an engineering-focused role drawing on skillsets in problem-solving, data collection and statistical analysis.  Process control, paint chemistry and project management will also be central to the successful candidate. Combined with regular opportunities for interaction with multiple levels of management from Axalta and customer operations, this is an excellent opportunity to build experience, prove competence and grow personally and professionally.  Successful candidates will need shift and overtime flexibility.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Respond to questions and concerns from the customer regarding product lines and general operations; involves complex situations that require basic project management to resolve situations.
    • Provide technical direction and assistance to customers on the use of product lines; serves as an expert in a single technology or applies a working knowledge of multiple technologies and may involve multiple sites.
    • Work with the R&D organization to trial and launch new products at facilities
    • Troubleshoot & resolve painting issues and problems that Painters and Paint Preppers encounter during automotive finishing processes. Robotic paint knowledge a plus; rotary atomizer application experience an extra-plus. 
    • Communicate with appropriate Axalta departments for regular updates on paint consumption, invoices, inventory, and paint ordering.
    • Gather finish appearance data regularly. Track, trend & share inputs including (but not limited to): viscosity, temperature, appearance data using Wave Scan, film build and other paint-related measurement devices.
    • Serves as a liaison with sales by interacting with line and management personnel, developing a complete understanding of needs and operations, and providing observations and leads to sales; receives direction from other personnel.
    • Serves as an operational advisor to customers by applying general quality tools and analytical concepts to assist with improving product quality and efficiency; receives direction or guidance on complex issues.  
    • Work with the customers to optimize application characteristics of our products to meet their throughput / appearance targets
    • Working with the color team ensure smooth transition and workability of new model year colors for the plants.
    • Assist in color styling activity for new colors to ensure colors are technically viable and are optimized for the Customer’s production environment
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Desired Skills and Experience:

    • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Chemical/etc/) or related field is highly preferred. Additional related experience will be considered in lieu for college degree.
    • The ideal candidate will have at least three (3) years of automotive coatings application and/or automotive coatings manufacturing experience.
    • Candidate must have a working knowledge of lean manufacturing/ Six Sigma.
    • Candidate must be proficient with data collection and interpreting data into meaningful analytics.
    • Additional experience with robotic automotive painting equipment is highly preferred.  
    • The ideal candidate must have an understanding of technical (lab, research, etc.) principles and practices.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
    • The ideal candidate must be able to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment while handling multiple projects at any given time.
    • PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applications as required.
