    Due to an upcoming retirement, Axalta Coating Systems is looking to hire a Material Specialist for our Mount Clemens facility.  This facility is considered to be one of Axatla's three hubs worldwide and has about 600 employees.   This is a day shift position. The incumbent will support the Materials and Inventory group for the Site Services sector. Under the guidance of a senior professional, the successful candidate will function as a resource to various Axalta departments globally and will work in research and development and production environments.

    Responsibilities

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Provide leadership and direction to a small team in the Materials and Inventory group.
    • Develop and supervise material technicians and material handlers and seek out areas for improvement.
    • Develop and implement materials strategy and goals.

     

    • Process orders for materials both internally and externally, record and report data, and assist with inventory, shipping, receiving, and customer assistance.
    • Maintain and update inventory records. Create efficient and accurate inventory management procedures. Reconcile inventories to book records and adjust when necessary.
    • Identify materials to be shipped that fall within dangerous goods category
    • Determine DOT requirements, and all additional compliance and internal requirements relative to the mode of transportation, for these goods
    • Oversee packaging of dangerous goods, sign off on documentation, and offer to carrier.
    • Establish inventory of necessary shipping supplies for dangerous goods.
    • Utilize internal technical database for establishing dangerous goods requirements.
    • Participate in Transportation Safety internal regulatory compliance audits.
    • Ensure site employees provide all necessary information per policy when shipping dangerous goods
    • Assist carriers to resolve complications with dangerous goods shipments.
    • Participate in distribution incident investigation teams to determine incident causes and effective corrective actions for distribution safety incidents.
    • Maintain schedule for employee medical surveillance testing and coordinate with providers
    • Document and establish closure process for safety audit findings and management of change follow up items

    Qualifications

    • Has (or will obtain) and maintains all DOT and IATA certifications for the packaging and transport of dangerous goods.
    • A High School Diploma is required. Any advance certification, education, or degree is preferred.
    • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in working in a materials management role is required. Experience in the coatings industry (or chemical handling) is highly preferred with experience in interpreting Material Safety Sheets
    • Experience working with SAP (version xx) is highly preferred.
    • Have experience or ability to learn bar coding systems
    • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and time management skills

    • Knowledge of inventory management practices
    • Candidate must have outstanding written and oral communication skills.
    • Candidate must be proficient with MS Office and SharePoint
    • Must be physically able to stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, and kneel.
