    Responsibilities

    Role Summary:

    Axalta Coating Systems is seeking an experienced Formulator to develop and commercialize next generation coatings.  This assignment will be located at Axalta’s new Global Innovation Center (GIC) located in Philadelphia, PA.   This role is responsible for developing new spray applied coatings for automotive, transportation, and industrial markets.  A formulator with at least seven years’ experience should be familiar with ingredients used in paints and the interactions between components to produce desired properties.  Appropriate experiences would include customer technical support and/or new product launches.  The person in this role will take the lead on formulation programs with significant interactions with raw material suppliers, resin synthesis experts, and application specialists.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Plan, organize and manage product development projects and related R&D activities for targeted market segments, effectively using project management tools to deliver results.
    • Lead a small team of scientists, engineers and technicians in performing designed experiments targeted at developing new products and novel processes
    • Define critical tests to relate coating properties to end use performance criteria.
    • Summarize and present findings to management, internal collaborators and external customers.
    • Understand and expand intellectual property estate through innovation.
    • Stay abreast of new chemistry and application technology related to assigned market segment.

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, Materials Science; at least 7 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of advanced degree
    • Demonstrated track record of pragmatic problem solving.
    • Demonstrated record of innovation through patents or publications
    • The successful candidate will have formulation experience with coatings or comparable products.
    • Capability to adapt to rapidly evolving market with loosely defined objectives.
    • Project management and experience with Stage-Gate process
    • Excellent written & oral communication skills to internal and customer audiences.
    • Share Axalta’s values of integrity, critical thinking, effort, and efficiency.
    • Candidate must have a working proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
    • Willingness and ability to travel (<10% of working time).
