    Responsibilities

    Role Summary:

    Responsible for leading a global team of Team Managers/Supervisors and highly skilled technical professionals by planning, organizing, and managing the overall activities of the global Refinish color development and technology team to deliver desired business results.  Collaborate with R&D on color technology development and commercialization.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • 30% People and Talent Management
      • Lead a global team of ~85 color technology scientists, engineers, and technicians located in laboratories located around the world.
      • Plan staffing levels aligned with budget and business needs
      • Interview, select, and hire people managers and key technical talent
      • Lead employees using performance management processes and tools to engage and encourage employee contribution including goal setting, ongoing feedback, and annual performance reviews.
      • Engage employees in career development planning and support growth and development to support functional talent management, including identification and development of a pipeline of future manager talent.
      • Consciously create a team culture consistent that emphasizes Axalta values and behaviors as well as business and functional guiding principles and vision. 
    • 30% Team Execution
      • Manage color development projects through regional teams in Europe, Asia, and the Americas aligned with local Color Marketing and Product Management.
      • Drive internal productivity projects for continuous improvement
      • Lead effective program management that successfully delivers results on time.  Plan and implement systems that perform the work and fulfill the mission and the goals of the department efficiently and effectively.
      • Plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish the necessary color developments to meet market demands. 
    • 30% Portfolio Management
      • Effectively communicate with Technology Directors, Business management, Operations and customers and exhibit strong customer interface skills and responsiveness to meet customer needs.
      • Leads portfolio strategy for the Color technology needs of the global Refinish business.
      • Prepares reports and dashboards for management to track strategic goal accomplishment.
    • 10% Technical Execution
      • Provide management oversight to deliver new technology solutions, improve attributes or quality of existing products, reduce cycle-time, and improve productivity. 
      • Lead technical teams to deliver on projects that support existing product lines and processes, and to develop new products and processes.
      • Direct technical research that leads to the understanding of color technology and processes and the relationships to paint formulation components.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Color Science), advanced degree desirable
    • 5-10 years’ experience in complex, matrix environment
    • 3-5 years’ experience managing technical professionals
    • Technical knowledge and experience in managing new product development and product support programs.
    • Knowledge of Refinish markets and/or customers
    • Experience with color formulation, color development, color QC tools & techniques
    • Knowledge of color instrumentation
    • Understanding of process improvement / optimization techniques
    • ~25% global travel required
