    Due to a promotion, Axalta Coating Systems is looking to hire a Team Manager for our Wood Coatings facility located in High Point, NC.

    Responsible for leading the Wood Coatings Waterborne development team by planning, organizing, and managing the overall activities of a technical work unit or team consisting of Scientists/ Engineering professionals and Lab Technicians to enable optimum team performance to deliver desired business results. 

    • 25% People and Talent Management
      • Plan staffing levels aligned with budget and business needs
      • Interview, select, and hire scientists/engineers and technician talent
      • Lead employees using performance management processes and tools to engage and encourage employee contribution including goal setting, ongoing feedback, and annual performance reviews.
      • Effectively manage employee performance through ongoing feedback and recognition, rewards, and when necessary, disciplinary action with the support of HR.
      • Engage employees in career development planning and support growth and development to support functional talent management aligned to individual contributor technical career paths and submit annual nominations for technical progression.
      • Identification and development of a pipeline of future Manager career path talent.
      • Foster positive employee relations that enables teamwork and unity among team that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together to enable each employee to succeed.
      • Consciously create a team culture consistent that emphasizes Axalta values and behaviors as well as business and functional guiding principles and vision.
      • Work collaboratively with Scientists assigning daily technician work to ensure their observations and overall feedback is incorporated into the overall performance management process.
      • Maintain employee work schedules including assignments, on the job training, vacation planning, and overtime scheduling.
      • Maintain transparent communication practices by appropriately communicating organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, email, IM, and regular interpersonal communication.
      • Empower employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback.

      • Manage the overall operational activities of the team to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment.
      • Assure effective project management that successfully delivers results on time. Plan and implement systems that perform the work and fulfill the mission and the goals of the department efficiently and effectively.
      • Plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet departmental productivity and quality goals.
      • Implement staffing plans consistent with anticipated workloads.
      • Make business decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and defensible in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
      • Provide oversight to ensure individual project accomplishments and overall work unit effectiveness is achieved relative to committed objectives.
      • Provide leadership for staff development and hold staff accountable to meet individual and business objectives through establishment and measure of key performance indicators.
      • Plan, evaluate, and improve the efficiency of business processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality, efficiency, and output through Lean Principles and continuous improvement.
      • Effective management of overall lab/facility operations including EHS&S.
      • Work across internal organizational matrix and external customers and functions to communicate, facilitate, or leverage to achieve project objectives.

     25% Technical Execution

      • Use of subject matter expertise to problem solve and address technical challenges in support of execution of projects and in the development of new products and processes.
      • Leverage and reach across organizational boundaries to draw SME knowledge as needed to execute effectively.




    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, advanced degree desirable
    • Progressive work experience in complex, matrix environment
    • Technical knowledge and experience in product development and product support programs.
    • Effective written and oral communication skills and organizational management skills.
    • Skilled at interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching and development skills.
    • Ability to serve as a knowledgeable resource to the organization's management team that provides leadership and direction.
    • Ability to practice a high level of confidentiality.
    • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and effective project management in prior roles.
